A side dish prepared using Cabbage and Carrot in Karnataka style.
Time Required: 15 Minutes
1 Cup Cabbage, Chopped
2 Carrots, Peeled and Chopped
¼ Cup, Hesarubele / Split Green Gram (Optional)
¼ Cup, fresh grated Coconut
2 – 4 Green Chilies, slit
Few Curry leaves
½ tsp Kadalebele / Bengal Gram
½ tsp Uddinabele / Black Gram split
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste
Heat Oil in a kadai / pan and add Kadalebele, Uddinabele and when they turn pink add Mustard Seeds and when Mustard splutters add Turmeric Powder, Green Chilies, Curry leaves and stir. Add Hesarubele and stir for a minute. Next add Cabbage, Carrots, Salt, Jaggery and a cup of water. Close the kadai and cook until the vegetables are soft. Add Coconut and mix well.
Remove Cabbage Carrot Palya to a serving dish and serve with Anna-Saaru or Chapathi.
