Gujarati menu is incomplete without this item. A popular and healthy snack from the state of Gujarat.
Time Required: 30 Minutes
2 Cups Besan / Gram Flour
1 Cup Curds
1 tsp Soda Bi-Carobonate / Cooking Soda or Eno fruit Salt
¼ tspTurmeric Powder
Salt to taste
For the seasoning:
Few Curry leaves
1tsp Mustard Seeds
¼ tsp Hing / Asafoetida
2-3 Green Chilies, Slit or chopped
Coriander leaves, Chopped finely
Freshly grated Coconut
In a mixing bowl, mix Besan, Curds, Soda / Fruit Salt, Turmeric Powder and Salt and mix well with hands. Add ½ cups of water and mix well.
Keep adding water until the consistency of the batter is thick and flowing.
Grease a dish. Pour the mixture into the dish and steam for 10 minutes.
Let it cool. Remove it to a plate.
Heat Oil in a small pan and add Mustard seeds, Hing, Green Chilies, and Curry leaves. Add water and Sugar.
Remove and pour it over Dhoklas.
Garnish with Coriander leaves and Coconut.
Cut into desired shapes and remove to a serving tray.
You can also serve with Coriander Garlic Chutney.
