Kairi Chi Dal is a salad prepared using Bengal Gram Dal and Raw Mango. This is distributed among women who are invited for Haldi Kumkum on Gudi Padwa (New Year) and Ganesh idol visarjan celebrations in Maharashtra.

Time required: 10 minutes + Soaking time
1 Cup soaked Bengal Gram / Channa Dal / Kadalebele
2 – 4 Green Chilies, minced
1/4 Cup Fresh Grated Coconut
1/4 Cup Grated Raw Mango
2 Sprigs Coriander leaves, Chopped finely
1″ Ginger, Grated
1/2 tsp Sugar (Optional)
1 tsp Oil
1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
A pinch of Hing / Asafoetida
Salt to taste
Crush Bengal Gram in a grinder. Remove to a mixing bowl. Add Coconut, Raw Mango, Coriander leaves, Ginger, and Green Chilies.
Add Salt and Sugar and mix well.
Heat Oil and Mustard Seeds, when they splutter add Hing. Let it cool. Add this to the Dal mixture and mix well.
