Gongura Pappu is a delicious and healthy dish prepared using Sorrel leaves and Lentils. This dish is extremely popular in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Ingredients:
1 big bunch Gongura leaves, washed and chopped
2 Onions, Chopped
1 Tomato, Chopped
5 to 6 Green Chilies, slit
1/4 Cups Peanuts
1 Cup Tur dal / Thogaribele / Split Pigeon Peas
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
2 tbsp Oil
6 – 8 Garlic pods
Few Curry leaves
A pinch of Hing / Asafoetida
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
2 Red Chilies, broken
1 tsp Red Chili Powder
Salt to taste
Method:
In a cooker add Gongura leaves, half of the chopped Onion, Tomato, Green Chilies, Peanuts, and Turmeric Powder.
Add 4 cups of water and cook for two to three whistles and keep it aside.
In a kadai heat Oil, add mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves, red chilies, Onion and fry until the Onion is translucent.
Add the cooked Gongura to the seasoning.
Mix well and add Salt and Chili powder and mix and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
Remove to a serving dish and serve with plain Rice and Ghee.
