When in Kotagiri it is a must to the Kodanadu View Point. It is a place that one can spend hours looking at the rolling hills and valleys.
The view is so open and wide that some parts of Karnataka can be seen when the weather is clear. Kodanadu View Point overlooks the Moyar River valley and thick evergreen forests. This place is less crowded even during peak season and lets you take in the view and the surrounding peacefully. It gives you the space to photograph from all angles.
The view is best during early morning. You can also see the majestic Catherine waterfalls cascading down.
Journey to this place is extremely scenic with sprawling tea gardens on either side of the road. You will encounter many hairpin bends. You might encounter wild animals like the Indian Gaur or Niligiri Thar or Niligiri Langur. For the birders, it is a paradise. Be on the lookout for beautiful birds like the Nigiri Flycatcher, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Nilgiri Laughing Thrush, Nilgiri Blue Robin, Nilgiri Sholakili, Owls, Kashmiri Flycatcher etc.
In the afternoons, the weather can become misty and the temperature might drop. Carry sweaters and jackets.
Better to eat in Kotagiri or Ooty and then travel to this place. Or carry food to eat at this place as there are no good restaurants at this place.
Kodanadu View Point is one of the most underrated viewpoints in the Nilgiris, offering a mix of dramatic landscapes, quiet surroundings, and raw natural beauty that feels far less commercial than nearby Ooty spots.
