Padavalakayi Beejada Raitha is a yoghur based dish, prepared using snake gourd seeds. Long, long ago my grandmother’s elder sister used to prepare this very often. My mother passed on this recipe to me!
Time Required: 20 Minutes
½ Cup tender Paduvalakayi Beeja / Snake Gourd Seeds
¼ Cup fresh grated Coconut
5 Green Chilies
1 Cup Curds / Yoghurt
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
Few Curry leaves
1 or 2 Red Chilies, Broken (Optional)
Salt to taste
Cook the seeds until soft. Grind Seeds, Coconut and Green Chilies to a paste. Remove to a mixing bowl. Add Yoghurt and Salt and mix well.
Heat Oil in a kadai and add Mustard seeds and when they splutter add Curry leaves and Red Chilies. Add this seasoning to the raitha and mix well. Serve with Chapathi or Rice.
