Nugu Dam is a delightful little dam tucked away in a picturesque location surrounded by hills in Beerwal village, Heggadadevana Kote or H. D. Kote taluk of Mysore district in Karnataka.
The dam was built under the direction of Sir M. Visveshwariah from 1956 to 1959 across the river Nugu. The dam was built for irrigation and hydroelectricity generation.
The length of the reservoir is 637.65 meters and a height of 43.58 meters above its deepest foundation. Nugu dam has four spillway gates of radial type.
Catchment area is around 380 square miles. Backwaters is spread over 3,491 acres and the length of the bund is 1240 feet.
There are restrictions to enter the dam, but the drive around the backwaters is beautiful with every nook worth taking a picture.
There are many species of birds that fill the silence with their calls.
