I saw a dense group of Orchid Polystachya Concreta growing on a thick branch of a tree that was covered with moss in Sirsi region.
Polystachya concreta is an epiphyte found in Western Ghats of India and belong to Orchidaceae family. Blooming period is from July to September.
Polystachya concreta has pseudo-bulbs hidden by leaves that are narrow and tapered. The flower spikes are 3 to 4 inches long. The flowers are tiny and green with a white lip. Flower size is around 3 to 4 mm. Bees pollinate the flowers and the seed capsule is brown around 6 to 12 mm.
Larger plants produce multiple flower spikes.
Separate pseudo-bulbs and plant them in a 3 to 4” pot. Use bark and moss as the potting medium. Place Polystachya concreta plants in moderate light and warm temperature.
Water the plants regularly during the summer and once in three days during winter. Spray diluted fertilizer once in a fortnight.
