Neeru Dose

“Neeru” in Kannada means water.  Neeru Dosa is prepared with a batter as thin as water and hence the name.

Cuisine: Udupi

Time Required: 20 Minutes + Soaking Time + Fermentation Time
Serves: 3

Ingredients:
2 cups Raw Rice
1/2 Cup Grated Fresh Coconut
Oil for Shallow Frying
Salt to taste

Method:
Soak Rice for 5 hours. Grind Rice and Coconut to a paste.  Remove to a vessel and add a cup of water and mix well.   Leave aside to ferment for 6 hours.

Add Salt to the batter and add 2 cups of water.  Let the batter be thin. Heat a Tava/Griddle and pour a spoonful of batter in the center of the pan and spread it evenly using the back of the ladle or by gently turning the Tava in a circular motion.

Cover and cook for 30 second.

Serve hot with Coconut Chutney or a mixture of fresh Coconut and Grated Jaggery.

Repeat for the remaining batter and stir the batter every time before it is poured on the Tava.
