Rawe Uppittu – Rawa Upma – Semolina Porridge – Sooji Upma

Uppittu

Rawe Uppittu is a dish prepared using Semolina and is popularly known as Upma.  The aroma that arises while preparing this dish is enough to make you hungry and grab a plate.  When served with a sweet dish Kesaribhath, the pleasure doubles up!

Serves: 4

Ingredients:
4 Cups UppittuRawe/Rawa/Semolina
1 Onion, Chopped finely
1tsp Bengal Gram
1tsp Urad Dal (Black Gram Split)
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
Few Curry Leaves, Chopped
5 Green Chilies, Chopped finely
1tbsp Lemon Juice
1 Cup Grated Fresh Coconut
Few sprigs of Coriander leaves, chopped
Salt to taste

Method:
Boil 8 Cups of water. Simultaneously, in a kadai roast Rawe for 2 to 3 minutes, remove in a tray and keep aside.

Heat Oil in the same kadai/pan, add Bengal Gram, Urad Dal and Mustard Seeds. When the Mustard Seeds starts to splutter and Bengal Gram and Ural Dal turns pink add, Curry leaves, Green Chilies and Onion. Fry until Onion turns translucent.

Add Salt and the roasted Rawe and mix everything together.

To this add boiling water and cover the kadai with a lid. Cook for two minutes on medium flame.

Remove the lid and add Coconut, Coriander leaves. 

Add more Lemon juice if required and and mix everything together.

Remove to a serving dish.

Serve hot with Chutney Powder or Chutney.
