Masala Vada – Channa Dal Vada – Dal Vada – Paruppu Vadai

Masala Vada

Masala Vada are fritters prepared using lentils, chilies and onions.  The aroma that arises while preparing this increases your hunger pans.  I love to prepare this on a rainy cold evening and have it with a cup of hot tea or coffee curling up on a bean bag and watching TV.

Time Required: 20 Minutes + Soaking time
Serves: 4

Ingredients:
1 Cup Bengal Gram
1/4 Cup Urad Dal (Black Gram split)
1 Onion, Chopped finely
3 Green Chilies, Chopped finely
2 sprigs Coriander Leaves
1 sprig Curry leaves, Chopped
3 sprigs Sabsige soppu/Dill or Pudina/Mint leaves
Oil for deep frying
Salt to taste

Method:
Soak Bengal Gram and Urad Dal for 40 minutes. Grind together without adding water and remove to a mixing bowl. Add the other ingredients to the bowl and mix well.

Heat Oil in a frying pan. Divide the mixture into small balls and flatten each one of them on the palms and deep fry on medium flame till crisp.

Serve hot Masala Vada with Lemon Rice and your choice of Chutney.
