Masala Dal Fry – Dal Recipe – Lucknowi Dal

Masala Dal Fry

Masala Dal Fry is a curry prepared using Split Red Gram, Onions and spices. I learnt this recipe from my aunt who was an amazing cook.

Time Required: 25 Minutes
Serves: 4


Ingredients:
1 Cup Tur/Tuvar Dal/Split Red Gram
Juice of 1 Lemon
1tbsp Oil
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Jeera/Cumin Seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste
For the Masala paste:
1 Onion
4 Pods Garlic
2 Green Chilies
2tbsp Coriander Leaves
½“ Ginger piece

Method:
Grind the ingredients for the masala to a paste. Cook Dal in the cooker and keep it aside. Heat Oil in a Kadai and add Mustard Seeds and when they splutter add Jeera and Turmeric Powder. Add the Masala paste.

Stir-fry until the moisture evaporates.

Now add the cooked Dal and mix well.

Add Salt and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove to a serving bowl and add Lemon juice, mix well.

Serve hot Masala Dal Fry with Phulka or Rice.
