Gombe Habba – Forest Arrangement

During Dasara, many households had the ritual of arranging dolls in the house for 9 days in Mysore region.  This would  bring out a lot of creativeness among the people.  The preparations for the doll arrangement would start two weeks before the commencement of the Dasara.  Decorating the Pattada Gombe, Polishing and painting dolls, Thermocol and Cotton work, and so on.  A week before Dasara, we used to grow Wheat in trays to make a forest arrangement.

Materials Required:
Trays made of potting material, Tin or Plastic
Mud + Sand + Manure mixture
Broken pieces of Pot
Wheat
Animal Toys
Drift Wood
Fengshui Bamboo Plants

Method:
Make sure the trays have holes for drainage of water. Cover the holes with broken pieces of pot. Fill the trays with the Mud mixture. Sow the Wheat into the mud and water everyday.

After a week the Wheat grass will cover the tray. Keep the trays near the designated place, where dolls are arranged and arrange driftwood and animals inside the Wheat grass. Keep the Fengshui Bamboo plants in the background to add more Green to the arrangement.

You can also arrange a village scene.

A small pond can be created where water animals can be arranged both inside and outside the pond.

Children love doing this and teaches them about the importance of nature and animal life. Gombe Habba – Forest Arrangement brings in a lot of life into the doll display.

Hope you make lots of Sweets and Savories for the neighborhood kids.
