Mosaru Vada Recipe – South Indian Dahi Vada – Thayir Vadai

Mosaru Vada are fritters prepared using Split Black Gram and soaked in spicy yoghurt/curds.

Serves: 4


Ingredients:
1 Cup Urad Dal (Split Black Gram)
Oil for deep frying
4 Cups Yoghurt/Curds
1/2 Cup Coconut
2 Green Chilies
1tsp Jeera (Cumin Seeds)
Salt to taste

For the Seasoning:
1tsp Oil
1/2tsp Mustard Seeds

For Garnishing:
Sev / Boondi (deep fried snack which is crisp)
Grated Carrot
Coriander Leaves

Method:
Soak Urad Dal for 30 minutes. Grind it to a thick paste. Add Salt and mix well.

Heat Oil in a frying pan. Take a spoonful of batter in the hand and make a hole in it using the thumb.

Deep fry until light brown.

Dunk the vadas in water for half an hour.  Remove and squeeze each one of them using the palms.

Beat Yoghurt in a vessel. Grind Coconut, Green Chilies and Jeera to a paste. Add this to the Yoghurt and Salt and mix well.

Add the vadas to the Yoghurt mixture and keep it aside for 20 minutes, the vadas will soak in the Yoghurt mixture.  Now arrange the Vadas in a tray and pour the remaining Yoghurt mixture over it.

Garnish with Sev / Boondi, Carrot and Coriander and serve immediately.
