Pundi Palya – Gongura leaves Subzi – Sorrel Leaves Side Dish

Gongura Side Dish

Pundi Palya  is a side dish very popular in North Karnataka. It is prepared using Sorrel leaves also known as Gongura.

Time Required: 20 Minutes

Ingredients:
1 big bunch Pundi Soppu / Gongura / Sorrel leaves
1 Cup Tuvar Dal
¼ Cup Akki Thari / Rice Rawa or Jolada Nuchchu / Broken Sorghum / Fried Gram Powder
6 Green Chilies
1tbsp Oil
1tsp Mustard Seeds
½ tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste

Method:
Pick the leaves from the stems and wash. Chop the leaves finely and keep aside. Cook Tuvar Dal until soft. Heat Oil and add Mustard Seeds, Turmeric Powder and Green Chilies.

Add the leaves and sauté for a minute.

Add Akki Thari and mix well. Add Tuvar Dal and Salt and cook until the excess water evaporates.

Remove to a serving dish. 

Serve hot with Indian Bread.

While serving you can add a teaspoon of raw oil to the palya.
