Godi Huggi – Ven Pongal Recipe – Khara Pongal – Khichdi

Godi Huggi is a wholesome dish prepared using broken wheat.  Usually Huggi is prepared using Rice, you can use Broken wheat for a healthier meal.

Time Required: 25 Minutes + Soaking Time

Ingredients:
1 Cup Broken Wheat / Godi Akki
½ Cup Whole Green Gram
4 Cloves
6 Peppercorns
¼ Cup Grated Dry Coconut
1tsp Jeera / Cummin Seeds
2tbsp Ghee / Clarified Butter
½ tsp Mustard Seeds
Few Curry Leaves
¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
Salt to taste

Method:
Soak Whole Green Gram for 4 hours. Grind Coconut, Peppercorns and Jeera to a powder. Heat Ghee, add Mustard Seeds and when they splutter, add Curry leaves, Turmeric Powder and Cloves. Stir in the masala powder. Add Broken Wheat, Green Gram, Salt and 3 Cups of water. Close the vessel and cook until done.

Remove to a serving dish and serve with Raitha and Gojju.
