Heerekayi Kadlekayi Chutney – Ridge Gourd Chutney – Beerakaya Chutney – Heerekai Chutney

Heerekai Chutney

Heerekayi Kadlekayi Chutney is prepared using Ridge gourd peels and Peanuts.

Time required: 10 minutes

Ingredients:
1 Cup Heerekayi Sippe / Ridge gourd peel
1/2 Cup roasted Groundnuts / Peanuts
1 tbsp roasted Sesame Seeds
Few pieces of Tamarind
2 tsp Oil
4 or 6 Green chilies, stir-fry in oil
1/2 Cup Coconut (Optional)
Salt to taste

Seasoning:
2 tsp Oil
1 tsp Uddinbele / Urad Dal / Black gram split
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
A ping of Hing

Method:
Heat a teaspoon of oil and stir-fry the peel and keep it aside. Using another teaspoon of oil, stir-fry the green chilies for a minute and keep it aside.

Grind all the ingredients to a paste using 1/4 cup water.  Remove to a serving dish.  Heat Oil and add Urad Dal and Mustard seeds, and when the dal turns pink and the Mustard splutter, add Hing and pour this over the chutney.  Mix well and serve with Rice or Dosa or Idli or Chapathi.
