Shetty Kere – Mysore

Shetty Kere - Mysore

On the Kozhikode-Mysore-Kollegal Highway, a small lake known as Shetty Kere attracts a lot of bird life.

Though Lake Dalvoy next to this lake is 10 times bigger, it does not attract any birds as the lake lacks aquatic bird food.

We saw spot billed Pelicans, Cormorants, Painted Storks, Spot Billed Duck, Common Coot, Darter, and Egrets.

A pair of spot billed Pelicans put up a show of dunking synchronously in the water and coming out with bills full of fish.

Pelicans in flight is a good photo opportunity and our patience paid off!

You can see many birds roosting and feeding the young ones on the trees on the banks of the lake.

Many wild flowers near the banks add color to the scene.

Ensure that you do not enter the water in Shetty Kere – Mysore.  As the lake is bang on the highway with intense traffic be careful to park your car to the side before stepping out to enjoy this small and bird populated lake.
