Happy Vijayadashami – Veeragase Folk Dance of Karnataka – Guggla

Veeragase Folk Dance

Veeragase is a folk dance of Karnataka where the participants wear grand makeup, headgear, and costumes and dance to folk music composed on Hindu mythology.  The dance movements are intense with high energy.  During the Dasara procession in Mysuru along with other forms of folk dance, Veeragase is perfomed along the route of the procession.  This dance form derived its name from Lord Veerabhadra and  is performed during all the festivals and in the Hindu months of Shravana and Karthika.

No Veerashaiva Lingayat household function is complete without the Veeragase performance. The guests enjoy the performance.  The Veeragase artists are called as Puravanta.
