Orchid Potting – Method 1

Orchids are unique plants and the potting has to be just right for them to grow well in home gardens.  Orchids, which are epiphytes have aerial roots which needs support as they grow.  Ground orchids need a different type of potting material.  The Orchid Potting method that is given here is for epiphytes.


Materials Required:
1 – Orchid Pot with holes all around
2 – Moss Grass
3 – Tree Bark
4 – Charcoal
5 – Dry Leaves
6 – Brick pieces or broken Pot pieces
7 – Dendrobium plant

Method:
At the bottom of the plant arrange Brick Pieces or broken Pot Pieces. Over this layer put a layer of Moss Grass and over this layer add a mixture of Tree Bark, Charcoal and dry leaves. Fix the plant in the middle of the pot. Be very careful not to cut the aerial roots.

Fill up the pot with few more Charcoal pieces, Dry Leaves and Moss Grass. Water the plant and keep it in a shaded place for 24 hours.
