Singada Halwa

Singada Halwa is prepared using Water Chestnut flour.  Singada is also known as Water Caltrop.  Today is the commencement of Dasara and let us start the celebration by preparing Singada Halwa.  Water Caltrop or Water Chestnut are some of the English common names of Singada.  Dishes made from this flour is eaten during Navaratri / Dasara vrat (observance). Happy Dasara!

Cuisine: North India
Time required: 30 Minutes

Ingredients:
1 Cup Singada / Water Chestnut flour
1/2 or 3/4 Cup Sugar
1/4 Cup Ghee / Clarified Butter
1 tsp Cardamom – Sugar Powder

Method:
Heat Ghee in a pan and add the Singada flour. 

Roast or 1 or 2 minutes.

Continue to roast until the flour is wet with Ghee.

Add Sugar.

Mix well until the sugar melts.

Keep stirring and remove once the mixture attains the halwa (pudding) consistency.
