“Nimisha” means a minute, and the presiding goddess of this temple is believed to grant your wish in a minute. Nimishamba is none other than Goddess Parvathi, consort of Lord Shiva. This temple is situated on the bank of Cauvery River in Ganjam. On the other bank is the Karighatta hill. Nimishamba temple is 2 Km from Srirangapatna and 17 Km from Mysore.
The idol of the goddess and the shree chakra is carved out of black stone. Another shrine next to Nimishamba is dedicated to Lord Moukthikeshwara/Shiva. Mummadi Krishanaraja Wodeyar, king of Mysore, built the temple around 400 years ago. People from all over come here to have a darshan/blessings of the goddess and spend time near the river. Lemon garlands and lemon is offered to the goddess. Few lemons are returned back to the devotee and this is kept in the Pooja room in their house and worshipped for few days and then immersed in either a well or river. Devotees also offer Sarees along with blouse piece and Bangles to the goddess.
On Fridays, Varamahalakshmi festival and Durgashtami during Dasara people flock to this temple to offer prayers. Fresh vegetables, fruits are sold on the banks of the river.
