Madiwala Lake, Bengaluru

One of the biggest lakes in Bangaluru, Madiwala Lake is spread over an area of 114 hectares. A residential area nearby is known as Madiwala.

The Madiwala lake is situated in BTM layout and attracts many migratory birds like Spot billed Pelican in winter months (November – January). The other birds spotted are Egrets, Cormorants, Common Coot, Grebe, Moorhen, and so on. A large number of Swallows are also spotted here.

The Madiwala lake was saved from extinction by the combined effort of concerned citizens and authority. It is now being maintained by Karnataka State Forest Department. Though a long way to go in beatifying the lake, it now boasts of a small children park and a spruced up garden.

When I visited the lake, the Silver Oak Tree lining the lake was in full bloom.  I had never seen Silver Oak Tree blooms!
