Kote Venkataramana Temple – Bangalore is one of the oldest temples in Bangalore and situated next to Tipu Sultan Summer Palace. Built in 1689 by the Mysore king Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar, it is a fine example of Dravidian style of Architecture. Presiding deity is Sri Venkataramana (Balaji).
As the temple is situated near Kote (fort), it is known as Kote Venkataramana Temple. Entrance to the temple complex is through huge doors with a gopura (tower). The complex consists of a mantapa (hall) with pillars and the garbhagriha (sanctum). Yali (mythical beast) stone pillars line the entrance to the mantapa. The outer walls of the mantapa have sculptures of Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva.
Vaikunta Ekadashi is celebrated grandly and thousands of devotees throng the temple to have a glimpse of Lord Venkatarama and pass through the Vaikunta (Heaven) door.
There is a separate shrine dedicated to Goddess Padmavathy inside the complex.
