Kalahatti waterfall is nestled in the midst of the enchanting Kalhatti ghats of Nilgiri birosphere. It is situated 14 Kms from Ooty and 15 Kms from Masinagudi.

There are totally 36 hair pin bends in the Kalhatti ghat section. As you start climbing the ghats, the temperature dips and the charming views down the valley is revealed one after the other like a slide show. The mist helps the hills play hide and seek and the aroma of the dried pine leaves on the ground mingles into the mountain air releasing a perfume, which is naturally customized for you. Kalahatti ghat is popular for hang gliding and the ghats is home to many wild animals like Bison, Sambar, Leapord, Panther etc., as it is very near to Madumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. The third hairpin bend is the Bison point from which you can spot Bisons climbing up or coming down the hill.

There are many waterfalls within the ghats and the biggest with an access to the falls is the Kalahatti waterfalls, which is situated in the 17th hair pin bend.

Kalahatti Waterfalls is a tiered falls, which falls from a height of 122 meters and it is advisable to visit the falls just after rains from August to October.

There is a small trekking path leading to the falls.  On one side of the path is a tea estate and the other side is a valley lush green with pine trees sharing space with other deciduous trees.

There are many wild flowers all around the waterfalls attracting many hued butterflies. Birds like Jungle Wabbler, Bulbul, Bush Chat, Indian Robin are seen in amazingly large groups.

Wild cactus with white blooms reaching to the sky balances the scenery perfectly.

Places nearby are Ooty (14 Kms), Masinagudi (15 Kms), Madumalai (21 Kms) and Bandipur (33 Kms).
