Jogigundi Waterfalls

It was not easy to visit Jogigundi waterfalls in Agumbe as we had to take police permission to visit the place. Fortunately, the police gave a green signal for us to go ahead with our plans to visit the waterfalls. With excitement, determination, and a bit of fear we drove into the narrow road surrounded by thick forests towards the waterfalls.

The fear factor disappeared when we saw an old man sitting near the parking place issuing entry tickets. We climbed down the steps to reach Jogigundi falls that were covered with dead leaves and hyper active leeches baying for our blood.

It took us sometime to realize that this waterfall is unlike the other waterfalls we have visited. Jogigundi falls flow with force from a cave and continues to flow as a stream through the hill.

The whole place is covered with rocks and the rocks are cut into interesting patterns by the flow of water.  The strength of the water flow can be gauged looking at some of the huge rocks, which have been cut through to allow water to rush out.

Jogigundi falls has created a natural pool, which beckons visitors to jump in for a swim. Be warned that the pool is deep with sharp rocks lining the pool.

Around the falls are trees covered with wet moss and orchids.  Ferns grow at every crease and corner.

Small wild flowers line the rocks and hills unaware of their contribution to the rich Eco-diversity of the place.

This is a wonderful place for birding and trekking.
