Garagadakuppe Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Garagadakuppe Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Another long pending wish to visit Garagadakuppe Anjaneya Swamy Temple was fulfilled.

The Anjaneya Swamy Temple at Garagadakuppe village is believed to be very powerful and believed to have been in existence since the days of the Mysore rulers. There is no clear history available regarding this temple.  The temple Jeernodhara (renovation) was done in 2003.

Garagadakuppe village is very small and has a population of 617 people. The main occupation of the people is agriculture.

The idol of Anjaneya Swamy is carved out of stone and you can feel the vibrations and gives you the confidence to face the hurdles in life.

Every 1st and 3rd Sunday the Lord is worshiped in a grand manner in the Garagadakuppe Anjaneya Swamy Temple and the head priest goes into a state of trance and answers the devotee’s questions. This is known as Arul Vaaku in Tamil and Prashne (questions) in Kannada.

There is an utsav murthy made of pancha loha (5 metals), which is taken out in processions. It is beautiful and peaceful.

Rama, Lakshmana, Sita, and Hanuman ustsav murthy is again beautiful and is taken out on special occasions in a procession.

The Garagadakuppe Anjaneya Swamy Temple itself does not have any carvings seen in ancient temples like Belur or Halebid. It is a simple concrete structure with the gopuram (tower).

Around the garba griha (sanctum sanctorum) and the front hall is an open-to-the-sky courtyard covered within a wall.  After people pray inside the temple, they go around this courtyard before going out of the temple.
