Delta Point – Kundapura

Delta Point

As you travel across coastal Karnataka, you come across innumerable rivers on one side and the ocean on the other side. It is just paradise on earth. The rivers meet the ocean at many places and the Coconut palms swaying to the hum of the wind is fit to be captured in pictures and paintings. Plus the divine temples dotting each city with its own legends and history. I just love exploring this region and savoring the sumptuous temple food and the local cuisine. We polish off a good number of Goli Baje, Banana Buns, Upakari, Gudbud, and Gojjambade when we are touring this area.

Yet another unexplored place that we visited was the Delta point. After parking our vehicle, we had to clamber up the man-made bund (embankment) on to the Sea walk.

The sight is breathtaking, with endless water and fishing boats returning home to Gangolli, which is fishing port on the opposite side of the sea walk. It is an estuary where River Suvarna says ‘Hello’ to the Arabian Sea.

Spotted a lot of Sea Gulls near the stretch where the river meets the sea. The food is great for them at this place and hence the dense population of Gulls.

Not yet commercialized, the place is great to take pictures and just let the wind run into your hair.

We spotted many other water birds in the area.

Night Heron waiting patiently for a catch.

Raptor on the look out to sweep down and pick a delicious sea food.

Few meters away is the Kodi Bengare Beach with some shacks selling sea food and drinks.
