Birds of Bandipur

Birds of Bandipur

Bandipur is home to 200 species of birds and for bird watchers like us, it is a paradise.  Bandipur has the maximum number of Tigers in the reserve forest, but do not be disappointed if you cannot spot any as they are extremely elusive.  While on the exciting hunt to spot the mammal you can do some birding, which is equally exciting and satisfying.  You will be surprised to see a variety of birds in every hue and size flocking around.  It is a sight to behold! Identifying the bird by calls is another activity that you can enjoy.  The birds are busy in the morning and evening and getting a picture right can be a challenge.  Let me allow the pictures below do all the talking.

Indian Cuckoo also known as brain fever bird –  Yes, my call is what you will remember once you are back in your room.

Bush Chat – Male : Cutest of all.

Cormorants – waiting for the right moment to strike the water.

Red Wattled Lapwing – out for a morning walk asking everyone “did you do it?”

The national bird in all its splendor.

Waiting for the right moment to show off the colors…

…And the moment arrived! Cameras thank profusely.
