Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was sanctified in 1895 by Archbishop Mgr. Gandy in Pondicherry. The church started functioning in 1908.
This ancient church is 50 meters long and 48 meters wide. It is 18 meters in height. The architecture is Gothic. There are 24 main columns that hold the structure. Biblical verses are written above the entrance door.
Pictures of 28 saints can be found inside the church. These saints are related to the devotion of Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The church was expanded to include the Grotto for Our Lady of Lourdes, Parish Hall, Adoration chapel and the new parish community hall. In 2005 with the supervision of parish priest Thomas, the church was completely renovated.
