South Indian Tongue Lip – Neel – Kallu Thaali

Other common names of South Indian Tongue Lip is Neel in Konkani, Kallu Thaali in Malayalam.  The botanical name is Rhynchoglossum notonianum belongs to Gesneriaceae (Gloxinia) family.  

South Indian Tongue Lip is a native of South India and SriLanka. It is an annual herb and is a creeper.  Lots of hair cover the plant.  The leaves are green, heart-shaped, succulent and have margins.

Flowers bloom during August to November.  They bloom in racemes opposite the leaves. The flowers are blue and point downwards.  The flowers are bright and beautiful.  These plants are seen in regions where there is extreme rain.
