Every life created by God has a purpose and beauty of its own. And Colville’s Glory seems to have been created by God in leisure. I was delighted when I spotted this rare tree in bloom in Mysore near Geetha Road.
The tree is known as Colville’s Glory and belongs to Leguminosae family. The tree is a native of Madagascar but is named after Sir Charles Colville, (7 August 1770 – 27 March 1843) who was a British military leader who fought in the Battle of Waterloo. Colville’s Glory is related to the good old Gulmohar / Flamboyant Tree.
The flowers are a bunch of beautiful cone shaped clusters in Orange with Yellow stamens. Each cone is around 10 to 15 inches. Humming birds, butterflies and bees are attracted to the flowers and so are we human beings. The compound leaves look like ferns.
A growing Ikebana for God him/herself!
The tree grows to a height of 40 to 50 feet and is planted for its ornamental properties. The blooming time is between October to December in India.
Colville’s Glory can be propagated through seeds.
