Halloween is celebrated each year on October 31. This celebration was started in Ireland by the Celts 2000 years ago.
It is a believed that on this day the ghosts of the dead return to earth. During Halloween celebrations bonfires are lit, jack-o-lanterns are hung, costumes with masks are worn, and bowls of food are kept outside the house to keep the ghosts at bay. Due to the Catholic influence, the three celebrations namely the eve of All Saints’, All Saints’, and All Souls’, were called All-Hallowmas meaning all saints day and eventually the festival came to be known as Halloween.
In USA, children wear costumes and go from home to home for trick or treat. It is a day for parades, parties, sweet treats and distribution of soul cakes.
