There are 53 species of Oberonia Orchids. Out of this 24 species are found in Kerala and Karnataka. Oberonia is also found in Eastern Himalayas, Assam, Thailand, Malaysia, Uttaranchal, and Java. They are also known as Fairy Orchids.
Stem of Oberonia is shot and the roots are fibrous and attached to the moss and bark of the trees. Leaves of Oberonia looks like a human hand hung from a tree. The leaves are Green to reddish, thick, oblong-ovate, pointed and succulent.
The flower spike is up to 11cm long and dozens of tiny flowers encircle the spike. The flowers are 1.5 mm in size.
