Orchid Dendrobium Nutantiflorum

I was delighted to see this Dendrobium in full bloom in Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary.  The bright reddish orange color of the flowers amazed me, as I had not seen any wild Orchids in red.

This orchid is known as Dendrobium Nutantiflorum.

Orchid Dendrobium Nutantiflorum is and epiphyte and is endemic to certain parts of the Western Ghats.

They also bloom in white and lip is pink with purple spots.

The plant thrives latched on to trees at high altitude.  Blooming time is from April – June.
