  1. In case you forgot to skin the tomatoes before cooking, at the end of the cooking time, boil the mixture rapidly for two to three minutes. The tomato skins will come to the top and you can pick them off with a slotted spoon.
  2. To skin Tomatoes easily, poke a fork into the tomato and hold it directly over the gas flame. Turn it constantly till the skin pops. Peel off the skin when it cools.
  3. Add a piece of Javitri / Mace to Mughlai dish and see the difference.

April 2009 Hints

  1. Are you worried about limp deworn curtains? Well, soak them in one bucket of water mixed with one cup epsom salt and rinse. Bright and crisp curtains are ready to adorn the windows and doors.
  2. To remove ceiling stains caused by leaking, blot the spot with a little chlorine bleach, repeat more than once for older spots.
  3. To make the screws screw easily, push the screw into a bar of hand soap first, before inserting.

February 2013 Hints

  • While cooking Radish add a piece of Ginger to reduce the smell of Radish wafting into the house.
  • To get rid of smells in the refrigerator, clean the shelves and sides with soda-bi-carb.  Rinse with a wet sponge.
  • Substitute water with whey (left over water while preparing Paneer) while making bread.

January 2013 Hints

  1. Keep Rawa / Semolina in the Oven for 1 minute and store to avoid the Rawa getting infested with insects.
  2. Long-Lived Flowers - Prolong the life of fresh cut flowers by adding 2 tablespoons of white vinegar ad 2 teaspoons of cane sugar to a quart of water.
  3. To clean steel tea strainer, keep it over the class flame.  The food particles will burn and it becomes easier to clean.

April 2012 Hints

As I was traveling on work, I could not update the website.

  1. To clean microwave interior, prepare a solution of 2 tbsps of soda bicarbonate in a cup of water and cook on high for 2 minutes.  Remove the solution and wipe a damp paper towel.
  2. To sow seeds evenly in pots and beds, put the seeds in a salt shaker and shake the seeds in the pots and beds.  If the seeds are big, then use the red chili flakes shaker.
  3. Add expired multi-vitamin tablets in your pots to supplement the plants with nutrients.

February 2012 Hints

  1. To tint flower stems used for flower arrangement.  Add food color in warm water and place flower stems in the solution. Stems will absorb the color and tint the flowers.
  2. Roll Lemons vigorously with your palm to get more juice out of them.
  3. If coconut chutney becomes too salty. Grind 2tbsp of Fried Gram / Hurigadale with little water and add to the chutney and mix well.

January 2012 Hints

  1. When using powdered gelatin, soak it in a little cold water for a few minutes to allow it to swell. Then place the basin over a pan of hot water to dissolve the gelatin completely.
  2. Before using Saffron in any dish, roast it for 5 seconds. They become crisp and now you can crush and soak them in milk or water.
  3. A few stands of saffron dissolved in little milk and added to any cooked dish can enhance its flavor.

July 2011 Hints

  1. To keep baked goodies fresh for longer, wrap them in butter paper and store.
  2. The water from your aquarium acts as a good feeder for your plants.
  3. Empty airtight containers remain odor free if you keep a pinch a salt in them.

March 2011 Hints

  1. Add little tamarind to water and let boil. Add Silver articles and jewelry to the boiling water and let it boil for 5 minutes. The jewelry will shine like new!
  2. In case you run out of mosquito mats, use camphor tablets.
  3. To crumble biscuits to use in recipes, place the biscuits in a polythene bag and crush. This avoids mess and wastage.

November 2010 Hints

  1. If pickles dry up, heat the required amount of oil, cool it and add to the jar to make the pickle soft and edible again.
  2. For cake decoration, create a pretty chocolate leaves by brushing melted chocolate on top of a real (non-poisonous) leaves. Freeze the leaves and peel away the real leaf, the chocolate leaf can be used for decoration on cakes.
  3. To tone your face skin, beat an egg white and apply on your face, avoiding eye area; relax and leave to dry. Wash to find your face well toned.
